US Coast Guard Birthday

On August 4, 1790, President George Washington signed the Tariff Act, which authorized the construction of 10 vessels to enforce trade laws and prevent smuggling.
These vessels were called "cutters" and were part of the Revenue Cutter Service, which was the forerunner to the Coast Guard.
